Jane Birkin's Original Hermes Bag Headed To Auction

The quintessential "It Bag" is about to go on the auction block. Sotheby's announced the original Hermès Birkin bag will be available to deep pocketed bidders in Paris on July 10th.The all black saddle stitched handbag was designed some 40 years ago by Hermès' CEO Jean Louis Dumas after a chance encounter on an airplane with actress Jane Birkin. The bag is one of the most desirable celebrity status symbols in the world selling for tens of thousands of dollars or more. Sotheby's would not speculate on how much they expect this bag to sell for but said it could quote "redefine records."
