Naples Pride Fest Draws Thousands Amid Protests and New Restrictions

It was a weekend of color, emotion, and resilience in Naples, Florida, as thousands gathered for Pride Fest at Canberra Park. The celebration came just days after a federal court ruling required last-minute changes to the event—most notably, moving drag performances indoors and restricting them to adult audiences.

Reporter Muhammad Abdul was on the ground covering the event for NBC Palm Springs.

Despite the changes, attendees came out in full force, embracing the spirit of pride and unity.
"I'm just happy to be here, really," one participant said. "Just having a good time."

Others emphasized their long-standing support for the LGBTQ+ community.
"I’ve been an ally most of my life," said one woman. "I’m here to support."

Outside the park, small groups of protesters voiced their opposition, raising concerns about children being exposed to drag performances and Pride celebrations.
"This display right here should be gone," one protester claimed. "It’s traumatic for children to see eccentric costumes and unfamiliar characters."

To comply with the court ruling, drag shows were moved inside the North Center and restricted to adults. Security was a top priority, with police separating protestors from attendees to prevent conflicts. One man was seen being handcuffed and escorted away by Naples police during a confrontation.

“I think the police are doing a great job,” said an attendee. “This has been a peaceful event, and they’ve kept it that way.”

Despite the tension, Pride Fest in Naples stood strong as a celebration of visibility, support, and love.
