President Trump Deploys National Guard to Los Angeles Amid Immigration Protest Unrest

Unrest continued in Los Angeles over the weekend as tensions flared following a series of federal immigration raids. Protesters initially gathered peacefully, but violence erupted, with cars burned and projectiles hurled at law enforcement officers.

In response, President Trump deployed approximately 300 National Guard troops to patrol the streets of Los Angeles—despite strong opposition from California Governor Gavin Newsom. The move marks the first time a president has activated a state’s National Guard without the governor’s request since the Civil Rights era.

“We’re going to have troops everywhere,” said President Trump. “We’re not going to let our country be torn apart.”

Federal agents reportedly arrested about 150 migrants during operations around the L.A. area. Protests over the raids, which began peacefully, have escalated into violent confrontations, sparking national concern.

California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized the president’s actions, blaming him for inflaming an already volatile situation.

“Donald Trump has created the conditions you see on your TV tonight,” said Newsom. “He’s exacerbated the conditions.”

The political clash has spilled into Washington, where lawmakers remain divided. Some argue the move ensures law and order, while others say it’s a dangerous overreach that could worsen tensions.

Meanwhile, the administration is now threatening to charge any local or state officials who interfere with federal immigration enforcement.
