Protests Erupt in Cathedral City Over ICE Operations Targeting Immigrant Communities

Over the weekend, multiple demonstrations unfolded across the Coachella Valley following controversial ICE operations in Cathedral City late last week.

According to protesters, heavily armed, masked federal agents entered local neighborhoods on Friday and arrested a man without identifying themselves or stating their purpose. The incident has sparked outrage from community members and local leaders, who say the goal of the operation wasn’t public safety—but fear.

On Saturday, dozens of demonstrators gathered in the parking lot of the old 99 Cent Store in Cathedral City. From there, they marched along Ramon Road for about an hour, carrying signs and chanting in solidarity with immigrant communities.

“This is our community. This is a working-class community that’s being targeted,” one protester said. “They’re targeting Latino spaces in working-class areas. It’s a coordinated campaign to attack the very people building this country.”

Organizers emphasized unity, resilience, and the power of collective action to protect neighborhoods and push for justice.

“We need to be united and to show that we’re united,” one speaker said. “None of us can fight alone—but if we fight together, we can make a difference.”

Demonstrations continued throughout the weekend, including a Sunday protest outside the U.S. Customs and Border Protection station in Indio.

While federal officials maintain the actions were part of necessary immigration enforcement, community members are demanding transparency, accountability, and the protection of immigrant families in the Coachella Valley.
