California House Democrats Condemn Trump’s Military Deployment to Los Angeles
California House Democrats held a unified press conference this morning, speaking out against President Trump’s decision to send military forces to Los Angeles amid ongoing protests over immigration enforcement.
The representatives denounced what they described as isolated acts of violence and called for immediate de-escalation from the White House.
“In a democracy, civil disobedience isn’t met with military force,” one representative said. “But that’s exactly what Trump is doing.”
Lawmakers also referenced the January 6th Capitol insurrection, linking the current federal response to a pattern of authoritarian overreach.
“Let’s not forget, Donald Trump is the same man who incited the January 6th insurrection that led to the death of five Capitol Police officers. We are at a dangerous inflection point in our country.”
The backlash comes as California Governor Gavin Newsom and State Attorney General Rob Bonta filed a lawsuit yesterday challenging Trump’s federalization of the California National Guard. The president ordered the deployment without the governor’s consent—a rare move that has escalated tensions between state and federal leadership.
The lawsuit argues that the federal government overstepped constitutional boundaries and is asking the court to block further military action in the state without local approval.
