Know Before You Go: Large Summer Project Update

Better late than never for your weekly Know Before You Go update — where we highlight all the major traffic-impacting construction projects happening across the Coachella Valley, so you can plan smarter and avoid the backups. Kris Gunterson, Program Manager at the CV Sync Traffic Management Center, joined us with what to watch for this week.

Cathedral City: Slurry Seal Work Moves to Vista Chino

The slurry seal project in Cathedral City continues to make its way across the city. This week, crews have shifted their focus to Vista Chino, with the main slurry application expected to wrap up by tomorrow. However, lane markings will remain faint or unfinished throughout the week, so drive carefully.

🚗 Pro Tip: Use Ramon Road or East Palm Canyon Drive to bypass delays in this area.

Palm Desert: Water Line Work Continues on Cook Street

In Palm Desert, the Coachella Valley Water District is still working on its water line replacement project along Cook Street, causing one-lane closures in both directions at various points. This project is expected to last another three weeks.

🚧 Avoid the slowdown by detouring to Washington Street or Monterey Avenue whenever possible.

La Quinta: Major Pavement Rehab Coming to Highway 111

Looking ahead, La Quinta is gearing up for a massive pavement rehabilitation project on Highway 111. This project will stretch from Plaza La Quinta on the west end all the way to Jefferson Street on the east. It’s a full reconstruction, and it’s expected to last throughout the summer.

👷‍♂️ Crews plan to mobilize by late next week, even ahead of their pre-construction meeting on Monday. Because of the scale of this work, heavy delays are expected for east-west travel through La Quinta.

🛣️ Alternate Routes:

  • Use Fred Waring Drive

  • Miles Avenue will be signal-synchronized to help keep traffic flowing

That’s it for this week’s update! With multiple long-term projects getting underway, it’s more important than ever to know before you go, slow down, and stay alert in work zones. We’ll keep you posted as these projects progress throughout the summer.

Stay safe out there, and have a great week on the road!
