Palm Springs Police Host Free Rights Session
The Palm Springs Police Department is inviting the community to a free “Know Your Rights” session this Thursday.
The session aims to educate the public about First Amendment protections and laws related to peaceful demonstrations.
It will begin at 5 p.m. at the department’s training center, located at 200 South Civic Drive.
Officers will lead the presentation, which is open to anyone interested in learning more about civil rights and public protest laws.
The initiative follows recent protests opposing federal immigration raids in both the Coachella Valley and Los Angeles.
Department officials say it’s important for residents to understand what is legally protected when expressing their views in public spaces.
They also hope the session fosters mutual respect between law enforcement and local organizers.
Attendees can expect to learn about freedom of speech, the right to assemble, and what to do during police encounters.
The class will also provide guidance on how to document protests safely and legally.
Organizers, activists, and concerned community members are all encouraged to attend.
The event reflects a growing emphasis on transparency and community engagement by the department.
No registration is required, and Spanish-language materials will be available.
