Tensions Remain in Downtown LA as Immigration Raids Enter Fifth Day

We turn now to downtown Los Angeles, where NBC’s Jay Gray reports from outside the federal complex, following four nights of unrest tied to ongoing immigration enforcement.

While this morning began calmly, the presence of National Guard troops remains steady, and many in the city fear more violence could erupt as tensions continue. Protesters have clashed with police and sheriff's deputies across the city in recent nights, with confrontations lasting well past midnight.

This marks the fifth consecutive day of protests in response to immigration raids ordered by President Trump. The president has continued to push forward with the campaign, recently activating both National Guard and Marine units to reinforce security in the area.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass voiced concern for residents:
“I can’t emphasize enough the level of fear and terror in Angelenos right now. People don’t know if their home, workplace—or their child’s school—is next.”

Homeland Security has confirmed that immigration operations will continue in the Los Angeles area for at least a few more days. Protesters have vowed to remain active and visible in their opposition.

As Marines arrive and the National Guard’s presence increases, many are asking whether today’s calm will hold—or if more unrest is on the horizon.
