Cool Off This Summer at the Berger Foundation Iceplex

Triple-digit temperatures are no match for the chilly fun happening inside the Berger Foundation Iceplex in Palm Desert. NBC Palm Springs' Tim O'Brien was live at the rink this week, where families are learning to skate, play hockey, and cool off in style.

The Iceplex offers a wide variety of programs for all ages and skill levels. Their Skate Academy is open to skaters as young as 3 years old, and adults are welcome too—proving it's never too early or too late to hit the ice.

According to skating manager Tawny Lane, Skate Academy sessions run Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons, with new classes starting July 16 and July 19. Registration is now open.

For younger skaters, ages 6 to 12, the Iceplex is also hosting summer skating camps, with the first session running June 16–19, and additional sessions scheduled in July and August.

Kids ages 5 to 9 interested in hockey can take advantage of the NHL Learn to Play program, which includes free equipment for participants. “It’s become a true hockey and figure skating community here,” said coach Jeff Crandall.

The fun continues this Friday with the Summer Kickoff Pool Party on Ice from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring prizes, public skating, music, and even floaties and beach towels on the rink.
