Desert Sands Unified Offers Free Summer Meals for All Youth

As summer begins in the Desert Sands Unified School District (DSUSD), the district is once again stepping up to ensure that local youth have access to nutritious meals. Starting Monday, June 10th, DSUSD will launch its free summer meal program, offering both breakfast and lunch to all children and teenagers aged 18 and under.

A significant highlight of this initiative is that attendance in summer school is not required for children to receive these meals. This open-access approach ensures that the program benefits a wider segment of the community, providing crucial nutritional support during the break from regular school sessions.

Meals will be served at various school sites and community locations throughout the district, continuing through the month of July. Families should note that while the program runs generally through July, dates and times for meal service will vary by specific location. It is highly recommended that families check the schedule for their nearest site.

Please be aware of specific dates when no meal service will occur:

  • Wednesday, June 19th

  • Thursday, June 27th

  • Thursday, July 4th (Independence Day)

  • Thursday, July 11th

This program is a vital resource for many families in the Coachella Valley, offering peace of mind that children can continue to receive healthy meals even when school is out.
