Extreme Heat Builds Across the Southwest as Temperatures Climb Toward 115° by Sunday

Another Heatwave Grips the Southwest: 115°F Possible by Sunday

It’s another sweltering day across Southern California, with temperatures today reaching a scorching 107°F—five degrees above the seasonal norm of 102°F. While not record-breaking, it’s still well into the range of extreme heat, and there’s little relief in sight.

Today’s conditions mirror what the region experienced on Tuesday, with persistent heat and only a few high clouds providing minimal shade. A strengthening ridge of high pressure hovering just off the coast is to blame, slowly making its way inland. Meteorologists expect this system to ramp up temperatures even more as it moves across the region.

Starting Saturday morning, the center of this high-pressure system will begin to shift over land, placing Southern California and neighboring Arizona directly in the crosshairs of its most intense effects. By Sunday, temperatures are expected to peak between 111°F and 115°F, creating potentially dangerous conditions for outdoor activities and vulnerable populations.

The 7-day forecast shows no significant break in the heat, with temperatures consistently above average. Thursday holds steady at 107°F, with a gradual climb each day toward the weekend’s peak. The forecast trend suggests continued heat well into next week.

A few high clouds may drift through, but they’re not expected to offer any real cooling benefit. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor exposure during peak sun hours, and check on neighbors and pets during this heatwave.

So, if you're planning to be outside this weekend, remember: red dress weather means it's seriously hot. Plan accordingly.
