Palm Springs International ShortFest Returns With Over 300 Films From Around the World

The Palm Springs International ShortFest returns for its 31st year starting June 24, transforming the desert into a global hub for storytelling through short film. Held at Festival Theaters in Palm Springs, the festival will showcase more than 300 short films representing over 64 countries.

Organizers say the ShortFest remains one of the largest and most influential short film festivals in North America—and it's both Oscar and BAFTA qualifying. With more than 6,200 submissions this year, the selected lineup reflects a broad spectrum of genres, from horror and comedy to family-friendly features and experimental cinema.

This year’s festival highlights four themed programs: Desert Docs, Shorties, Gayla, and Thrills & Chills. The Shorties program, set for Saturday, June 28, is aimed at younger audiences and families, while other blocks cater to fans of romance, suspense, and international storytelling.

Local films will also have their moment. Five desert-themed or locally made films are featured this year, including Four Feet Away, Richard Neutra's Maslon House, Sheepdogs, and Retroperspectiv. The festival continues to support community engagement through a local jury program, where youth and adult jurors select their favorite films and present awards to filmmakers.

The ShortFest runs through June 30, offering attendees a full week to screen films, attend panels, and network with creators from around the world.
