Southern California Grocery Workers Prepare for Possible Strike
Grocery store workers across Southern California are preparing for a potential strike after union members voted overwhelmingly to authorize the move.
Local 770 of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, which represents about 45,000 workers at Albertsons, Ralphs, Pavilions, and Vons, made the announcement Wednesday. The authorization vote does not guarantee a strike will happen, but it gives union leaders the power to call one if negotiations with employers break down.
The vote follows ongoing labor talks over pay, scheduling, and workplace conditions. As of Wednesday night, there was no response from Albertsons or Kroger, the parent company of Ralphs, regarding the strike authorization.
At this time, it is not yet clear whether any potential labor action will impact grocery store locations in the Coachella Valley.
