Palm Springs Library Finds New Temporary Home at Familiar Neighborhood Shopping Center

Palm Springs residents will soon have a new place to check out books, attend story time, and access community services when the city's main library relocates to the Vons Shopping Center this August.

The Palm Springs Public Library announced this week that it will set up temporary operations at a spacious 6,000-square-foot space at 4721 E. Palm Canyon Drive, right in the heart of the Vons Shopping Center at the corner of Gene Autry Trail.

"We're excited about it; it's a great space," said Library Manager Julie Warren, noting that the new location will help the library stay connected to the community during the extensive renovation period.

The library's permanent location at 300 S. Sunrise Way will remain open until July 19, giving families time to finish up the popular summer reading program before the big move. The timing allows children to complete their summer reading goals in the familiar space they know and love before transitioning to the temporary location.

Community members can rest assured that all their favorite library services will continue at the shopping center location. Parents won't miss a beat with baby and toddler story times, while teenagers can still participate in S.T.E.A.M. events that combine science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics learning. The public computer lab will remain available for residents who rely on internet access for job searches, homework, or staying connected with family.

While the main library undergoes its transformation, adult programming will expand at other neighborhood libraries, including the Welwood Murray Library at 100 S. Palm Canyon Drive.

Construction is expected to wrap up in February 2027.

Library staff encourages community members to call 760-322-7323 with questions or concerns.
