Thousands Protest Immigration Crackdowns in Cathedral City During ‘No King’s Day’ Rally

David Reese, NBC Palm Springs, reporting live from Cathedral City where a large demonstration took place Saturday as part of the national “No King’s Day” protests. The rally began at 9 a.m. and is expected to continue until 2 p.m., with hundreds of participants filling East Palm Canyon Drive.

The protest, one of many occurring across the country, is aimed at opposing immigration crackdowns led by ICE and voicing concern over the policies of the Trump administration. Protesters say these actions infringe on the rights of immigrants and U.S. citizens alike.

One attendee, Odyssey from Indio, shared her reasons for participating. “I have immigrants in my family, and all they do is work hard for a better life. I’ve faced racism myself, and I’m here for my son, for my family,” she said. Holding a sign that read, We don’t steal jobs, we earn them, Odyssey urged those unaffected to imagine if their own families were being separated.

The demonstration stretched several blocks between Cathedral Canyon Drive and points east. At its peak, the crowd exceeded 1,000 people. While the atmosphere was energetic and vocal, it remained peaceful throughout the morning. Cathedral City motorcycle officers were seen monitoring the area, but there was no large-scale police presence.

Protesters carried signs with messages like “Fascism is not freedom” and “No more family separations,” with many participants likening the administration’s actions to those of authoritarian regimes. The event’s name, “No King’s Day,” reflects criticism of perceived overreach by the executive branch.

The rally marks one of the largest demonstrations in the Coachella Valley in recent months, drawing widespread attention to the national debate on immigration enforcement and civil liberties.
