Father Drowns Saving Daughter on Father’s Day at Fort Lauderdale Beach
A heartbreaking Father’s Day tragedy unfolded on Fort Lauderdale Beach as 33-year-old Antoine Wilson lost his life saving his daughter from drowning.
According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, the young girl, believed to be between 7 and 10 years old, began struggling in the water just after lifeguards had ended their shifts for the day. Despite the absence of an active watch, lifeguards were still nearby loading equipment and were able to respond swiftly.
Wilson, without hesitation, jumped into the surf to save his daughter. Authorities say he managed to keep her afloat long enough for lifeguards to pull her to safety. Tragically, Wilson disappeared underwater and could not be revived.
A good Samaritan also rushed into the water to help. “I got close to the girl,” he told 7 News. “I think her dad was far away and under the wave. He was trying to ask for help.”
Fort Lauderdale lifeguards, who were nearby, turned their vehicles around to become the first responders on scene. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue also assisted in the emergency response.
After being taken to the hospital, the daughter learned that her father had passed. Wilson’s selfless act saved her life but cost him his own.
