Know Before You Go: Major Summer Road Projects – What’s Wrapping Up and What’s Just Beginning
It’s time for your weekly Know Before You Go update — brought to you in partnership with CV Sync and Program Manager Kris Gunterson, who joined us once again live from the Traffic Management Center in Palm Desert.
As we move into the heart of summer, some projects are wrapping up, while others are just getting started. Here's what to keep an eye out for this week.
✅ Projects Completed
Cathedral City:
The slurry seal project is just about finished in Cathedral City. Crews are wrapping up final striping and road markings, so drivers are urged to stay alert as some lane configurations may have changed.
Palm Desert:
Two major projects are now complete:
The Coachella Valley Water District project on Cook Street
The Southern California Edison vault repair on Monterey Avenue
You’re officially free to cruise through both of these areas without construction delays. 🎉
🚧 Major Project Starting in La Quinta
Now for the big one.
A full pavement rehabilitation is set to begin this week along Highway 111 in La Quinta, stretching from Plaza La Quinta to Jefferson Street. This will be a long-term project — continuing through summer and into fall — and it’s expected to cause significant delays for drivers heading east-west through the area.
🛍️ Good news: Local businesses will stay open during construction.
🚗 Better news: Traffic teams will be coordinating signal timing on Miles Avenue and extending green time on Fred Waring Drive to help ease the flow of detoured traffic.
Kris and the team are meeting with the City of La Quinta and contractors Monday, so we’ll have more detailed detour maps and timelines coming soon. But for now, start planning alternate routes.
👷♂️ Indian Wells Projects Coming in July
Two new projects are set to break ground in Indian Wells next month — both near the Indian Wells Tennis Garden:
Southbound Washington at Fred Waring – crews will be extending the right turn lane to reduce congestion for through traffic.
Northwest corner of Washington & Miles – workers will pull back the curb to widen the turn radius for buses and trucks, making for a smoother ride.
These jobs are off to the side of traffic and expected to have minimal impact, but drivers wanting to avoid the area can always take Cook Street or Jefferson Street instead.
That’s it for this week! We'll continue to keep you updated as more summer construction projects roll out across the Valley. Until then, stay safe, drive smart, and always Know Before You Go.
