Plaza Theater Renovation Moves Forward with Demolition in Downtown Palm Springs
Some big changes are now underway in downtown Palm Springs as the next phase of the Plaza Theater renovation begins.
Starting this week, crews are demolishing the patio at Kalura Trattoria to make way for a new 60-seat outdoor dining area and an updated entrance to the historic Plaza Theater. City officials say the new entrance will comply with modern fire and building codes, improving safety for theatergoers.
The redesigned patio will run along South Palm Canyon Drive, stretching from Ben & Jerry’s to Kalura, and will also create a clear 20-foot path from the theater to the sidewalk for better accessibility.
The demolition phase is expected to last about a week, and drivers should be prepared for occasional lane closures in the southbound direction along Palm Canyon.
The city says the new patio should be completed by August, and the Plaza Theater’s grand reopening remains on track for December 1.
