DHS Reverses Course, Will Resume Immigration Raids at Worksites

The Department of Homeland Security has reversed a recent decision to limit immigration enforcement at certain worksites, including farms, hotels, and restaurants. On Monday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials directed field offices to continue conducting raids at these locations, effectively resuming full-scale worksite operations.

This marks a significant shift from guidance issued just days earlier that appeared to scale back such enforcement. That earlier directive came in response to pressure from industry leaders in agriculture, hospitality, and food services—sectors that depend heavily on migrant labor.

The reinstated operations have already had a chilling effect on some industries, with employers and workers expressing concern about increased enforcement. Farms and hotels, in particular, have long relied on immigrant labor to fill roles that are often hard to staff with domestic workers.

President Trump weighed in last week, acknowledging the strain on key industries but maintaining that immigration laws must be enforced. While no new national policy statement has been released, ICE’s updated instructions suggest a renewed emphasis on workplace immigration enforcement.

The move has reignited debate around the balance between labor needs and border enforcement, with immigrant rights advocates warning of disruptions to essential sectors and potential humanitarian consequences.
