World Croc Day, Apple Strudel, and Garbage Trivia: June 17 Holiday Fun
Tuesday, June 17, 2025, brings a quirky lineup of celebrations with today's Hashtag Holiday Calendar & Pop Quiz, sponsored by Inland Empire Health Plan.
First up, it's World Croc Day — and no, we’re not talking about the foam footwear. Today honors the real crocodiles, some of which can weigh up to 2,000 pounds. For comparison, alligators typically max out at about 500 pounds. A quick tip to tell them apart: crocodiles have V-shaped snouts, while gators are more rounded.
Next on the calendar, it’s National Apple Strudel Day. This pastry, filled with apples and spices wrapped in flaky dough, gets its name from the German word “strudel,” meaning “whirlpool.” Looking to celebrate? The Italian deli in Palm Desert reportedly has a great one.
It’s also National Root Beer Day. Traditionally brewed from molasses and sassafras, root beer remains a nostalgic favorite — especially when paired with ice cream in a classic float.
On a more heartfelt note, today is Global Garbage Man Day, a time to appreciate the men and women who keep our communities clean. With summer temperatures rising, their work becomes even more demanding, so a simple thank you can go a long way.
Now for the Pop Quiz! Today’s theme: garbage — both literal and musical.
