Hemet Man Crashes Into Traffic Control Box in Cathedral City
A Hemet man is facing DUI charges after a crash early this morning in Cathedral City.
Police say it happened around 1:30 a.m. near Date Palm Drive and Dinah Shore.
Officers say 37-year-old Michael Alcala hit the center median before losing control.
He then slammed into a traffic control box, causing significant damage.
The impact knocked out the signals in the area temporarily.
Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene.
Alcala was injured in the crash and taken to the hospital.
His current condition hasn’t been released.
Investigators believe alcohol played a major role in the incident.
He’s now facing charges for driving under the influence.
Public works crews were called in to repair the traffic signals.
Drivers are urged to use caution in the area while repairs continue.
