CVWD Celebrates Avenue 66 Water Project, Expands Access to Clean Drinking Water

It’s Water Wise Wednesday, brought to you by the Coachella Valley Water District. This week, CVWD is celebrating a major milestone: the completion of the Avenue 66 transmission main project.

Lorraine Garcia from CVWD joined us to explain how this new pipeline is transforming access to safe, reliable drinking water for residents in the eastern Coachella Valley. “The project installed a major pipeline to provide safe and reliable drinking water to residents who currently rely on private water systems that are either failing or at risk,” Garcia said.

Three mobile home parks have already been connected to CVWD’s water system, with more communities slated for connection in the future.

“This was made possible through over $30 million in grant funding from the State Water Resources Control Board and the Department of Water Resources,” Garcia explained. “It was all coordinated through CVWD’s Disadvantaged Communities Infrastructure Task Force.”

For those interested in learning more about this initiative or future water infrastructure efforts in underserved areas, CVWD has made additional information available at cvwd.org/DACtaskforce.
