Juneteenth, Dry Martinis, Garfield and Movie Pets: It’s a Full Holiday Thursday

Thursday, June 19, 2025, is more than just Juneteenth. The Hashtag Holiday Calendar is overflowing with unique celebrations — and our Pop Quiz is here to test your trivia knowledge!

In addition to observing Juneteenth, today is also National Dry Martini Day. A traditional martini is made with gin and dry vermouth and garnished with an olive — or a lemon twist for flair. Not a martini fan? There’s still plenty more to celebrate.

It’s also World Tapas Day, honoring the Spanish tradition of small shareable plates served alongside drinks. Perfect excuse to enjoy a variety of flavors with friends.

Another fun one: Garfield the Cat Day. The lasagna-loving, Monday-hating feline first appeared in 1978 and has been napping, eating, and grumbling ever since.

And it’s National Pets in Film and TV Day — a time to appreciate the furry (or scaly or feathered) stars of screen history. Think Lassie, Hedwig, Benji, and even Mr. Bigglesworth from Austin Powers.

Today’s Pop Quiz featured two animal-related questions. First, we revisited Michael Jackson’s 1972 hit Ben, the theme song for a horror movie of the same name. Viewers were asked: what type of animal is Ben? Answer: rats.

Then, for Friends fans — Ross Geller had a pet monkey early in the series. What was the monkey’s name? Answer: Marcel.

Stay cool, stay curious — and celebrate the quirky holidays that make each day a little more fun.
