Late-Night Protests in Indio and Palm Springs Target Alleged Federal Agent Presence
Spontaneous protests erupted Monday night in both Indio and Palm Springs amid growing tensions over ongoing federal immigration raids in the Coachella Valley.
Advertised late in the day on social media under the banner “Ice Melts in the Desert,” the demonstrations were organized in response to the belief that federal agents were staying overnight in local hotels.
In Indio, protesters began gathering outside the Fairfield Inn around 8:30 p.m. Video captured by NBC Palm Springs shows the scene remained active well past midnight, with protesters chanting, blowing whistles, setting off fireworks, and blasting loud music. Some cars could be seen performing burnouts in the parking lot—adding to the noise in what appeared to be a coordinated effort to disrupt any possible law enforcement presence.
There have been no reports of arrests related to the protest, and it is unclear whether any federal agents were actually staying at the Fairfield Inn.
A similar protest took place in Palm Springs, where demonstrators gathered outside another hotel location believed to be housing federal agents. The growing unrest comes after a week of heightened immigration enforcement activity across the Eastern Coachella Valley.
Community groups continue to call for transparency and support for families impacted by these operations, while law enforcement agencies have remained mostly silent about the scope and timing of their actions.
