Trump Grants Third Deadline Extension for TikTok Sale

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order granting a third deadline extension to TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, giving the company an additional 90 days to sell the app to an American buyer.

The move allows TikTok to continue operating in the United States for now, amid ongoing national security concerns over its Chinese ownership. Trump previously extended the deadline twice, with the most recent extension set to expire Thursday.

While aboard Air Force One on Wednesday, the president said he believes Chinese President Xi Jinping would support a sale and that his approval would likely be necessary to move any deal forward.

TikTok’s ownership and operations have been under scrutiny since last year when a law signed under former President Biden required ByteDance to divest the platform or face a potential ban.

So far, ByteDance has not commented on whether a buyer is lined up or if talks are underway.
