Server Of The Week

Sherman’s Deli Veteran Surprised with $1,000 as Server of the Week

A longtime favorite at Sherman’s Deli in Palm Springs just got the surprise of a lifetime.

Mitch, a server with 25 years of dedication to the iconic restaurant, was named NBC Palm Springs' Server of the Week—and was awarded a $1,000 tip courtesy of Toyota and Honda of the Desert.

Anthony Carini made the surprise visit to the busy downtown Palm Springs deli, where Mitch was in the middle of a bustling lunch rush. “You've got a lot of fans out there,” Carini told him. “You’ve been nominated through NBC as our Server of the Week.” Mitch, clearly surprised, responded with gratitude and humor, saying, “I don’t even have any social network... and yet I have a footprint on social network.”

Mitch shared that he's worked at Sherman’s for a quarter-century, and his secret to great service is simple: “Treat people like you want to be treated.”

The restaurant was packed as usual, with Mitch recommending their pastrami or corned beef Reuben as the most popular lunch order. When asked how he might spend the $1,000, Mitch said it’s going toward an upcoming vacation.

Sherman’s Deli, a Palm Springs landmark, is known not just for its classic deli fare, but also for its welcoming atmosphere—something Mitch has clearly helped build over decades.

Congrats to Mitch, and thanks for continuing to serve our community with heart and hospitality.
