Cancer Survivor Turns Healing Journey Into Hope Through Yoga

In honor of National Cancer Survivor Month this June, a local woman is transforming her personal healing journey into a beacon of hope for others. Shay Moraga, a cancer survivor and founder of the nonprofit Shay’s Warriors, has partnered with Eisenhower Health to offer a unique yoga class called "Move to Heal." Held every Monday morning at the Lucy Curci Cancer Center in Rancho Mirage, the class is open to cancer survivors at any stage of recovery.

Moraga discovered the therapeutic power of yoga during her own cancer treatment and recovery. The practice helped her reconnect with her body, find inner peace, and build resilience. Inspired by her experience, she became a certified yoga instructor and launched this program to help others navigate the physical and emotional aftermath of a cancer diagnosis.

Participants describe the sessions as more than just exercise—they’re a sanctuary of support and shared understanding. The gentle, mindful movements help ease physical tension, while the group setting fosters deep emotional connections among survivors.

Through “Move to Heal,” Shay Moraga is showing that healing is not only possible but also empowering—and that survivors can thrive together, one breath and one pose at a time.
