Marijuana Grow Facility Employee Speaks Out One Day After DEA Operation In Thermal
Over seventy undocumented immigrants have been arrested after a large-scale drug bust in the city of Thermal. The DEA Los Angeles Field Division led the operation, which targeted multiple illegal marijuana grow operations in the area.
The raid brought together over 500 agents, officers, and soldiers from several federal agencies, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the National Guard, ICE, the Army, and the FBI. The coordinated effort resulted in numerous arrests and raised questions from those who work at the facility.
One employee, who asked to remain anonymous, shared photos and videos with NBC Palm Springs and described the aftermath of the raid. He says several of his personal belongings were damaged.
“They're not just breaking my lock. They broke my glass. They go into it, they steal my things.” he said.
Despite the DEA calling the operation a drug bust, the employee and others were allowed back at the facility, where marijuana plants remained largely untouched. “If it's an illegal grow, why are we allowed to get in? Why are we going to work again? Does that make sense?” he asked.
The DEA issued a brief statement, saying, “We executed a search warrant as part of our evidence gathering process. We issued a cease and desist order. The investigation is ongoing and no further details are available at this time.”
The arrests and the presence of marijuana still on-site have left employees with more questions than answers. The future of the facility remains unclear as federal authorities continue their investigation.
