Bride’s Bachelorette Cruise Turns Wild with Massive Shark Encounter off New England Coast

What started as a serene bachelorette cruise turned into a heart-pounding encounter with nature for Morgan Irons, a bride-to-be who’s always feared the open water. The group had set off near the Isle of Shoals with the promise of whale watching and a peaceful day at sea. Instead, the bridal party found themselves in a very personal tribute to the 50th anniversary of Jaws.

Colby Taylor, the bride's future sister-in-law, had assured Morgan there was nothing to worry about, even citing her own lifelong experience on these waters. But during the trip, Colby was the first to notice something unusual—what appeared to be a large fin. At first, the group dismissed it as a bird or sunfish, until the true scale of the creature became apparent.

Two enormous basking sharks—one possibly as long as their 42-foot boat—began swimming beneath them. The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy later confirmed the sighting, noting these gentle giants are the second-largest shark species in the world.

“It looked like a dinosaur coming out from underneath,” said Morgan. “It was just this massive, massive body.”

The unforgettable moment became the evening’s main topic—and turned a bachelorette party into a legendary sea story.
