California’s Great America May Close After 2027

A Bay Area staple for nearly 50 years may be nearing its final ride.
Six Flags' “California’s Great America” amusement park could shut down after the 2027 season.
The park’s current lease is set to expire in mid-2028.
Unless that lease is extended, the park will likely close its gates for good.
The news came during a recent Six Flags investors meeting.
Company officials, including the CFO, cited the park’s low profit margin as a key reason.
Next year marks the park’s 50th season, a major milestone in its long history.
It first opened in 1976 under the name “Marriott’s Great America.”
Over the decades, it’s welcomed millions of thrill-seekers and families.
The park’s parent company, Cedar Fair, merged with Six Flags in 2023.
Fans and employees alike are hoping the lease can be extended.
But for now, the future of California’s Great America remains uncertain.
