Co-Conspirator in Palm Springs Fertility Clinic Bombing Found Dead in Federal Custody
The man accused of helping orchestrate the Palm Springs fertility clinic bombing has died while in federal custody. Daniel Park, 32, was found unresponsive around 7 a.m. Monday at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Authorities say Park was a co-conspirator in the May 17th attack, allegedly supplying chemical materials to the primary suspect, Guy Bartkus. The explosion devastated an entire city block, caused more than $6 million in damage, and left local business owners and residents reeling.
Despite life-saving efforts initiated at the detention facility, Park was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The exact cause of death remains under investigation, pending a medical examiner's report.
Among those impacted by the bombing was David Rios, owner of the Velvet Rope Hotel, one of the properties damaged in the blast. Rios expressed frustration over the news of Park’s death, saying it robs victims of a chance at justice and understanding.
“It’s disappointing because I think there could’ve been some type of discussion—to understand his mind frame,” Rios said. “No answers, no jail time. There’s no justice. That’s the most unsettling part.”
At the heart of the explosion was a fertility clinic run by Dr. Maher Abdallah, whose building was completely demolished. He shared that while the destruction was painful, clearing the site has helped the healing process.
“Passing by those damaged buildings was really painful on all of us, especially the staff,” Dr. Abdallah said. “Seeing it all down and knowing we’re rebuilding brings some relief.”
The new IVF clinic is scheduled to reopen by May 15 of next year—almost exactly one year after the bombing.
“It’s a statement,” said Dr. Abdallah. “We want to show how fast we recovered and move forward with normal operations.”
For now, the community waits for answers surrounding Park’s sudden death—while continuing to rebuild what was lost.
