Indoor Pickleball Boom: Palm Desert’s Pickled Bar Offers Cool Summer Escape

As temperatures rise across the Coachella Valley, locals are finding a new way to stay active—indoors. Pickled Bar in Palm Desert is quickly becoming the go-to spot for summer pickleball enthusiasts.
"I'm Tom Lanza. I'm the manager here at Pickled Bar—been here about two years now," said Lanza. "We're one of the few legit indoor courts in the area. The surface is outdoor-grade, the same type used at Indian Wells for the BNP."
Located in the Costco shopping center at Dinah Shore and Monterey, Pickled Bar has seen business double as summer temperatures climb. But it’s not just the heat driving people inside.
“Since that storm a few years ago, the air quality outdoors just hasn’t been the same,” Lanza added. “There’s a lot of particulate dust in the air, and for many people, this is the only place they can play and breathe comfortably.”
The sense of community is another major draw. “We’ve got a tight-knit group here. Once you’re in, you’ve got friends for life,” said Lanza. “The game is so social—it’s unbelievable.”
Pickled Bar is also backed by local sponsor First Strike Pickleball.
Whether you’re a seasoned player or a curious beginner, Pickled Bar is the place to stay cool and connected all summer long.
