Palm Springs Announces Summer Water Programs and Community Events Amid Hot Summer Weather
As temperatures hit those "pool-able" numbers (A Jerry phrase), the City of Palm Springs Parks and Recreation Department has announced several events and programs to help residents stay cool this summer.
Surf Club Resident Discount Days
Palm Springs residents can enjoy discounted admission at the Palm Springs Surf Club on select dates this summer, including Wednesday, June 25. The discount offers half-price admission: children pay $10 (regular price $20) and adults pay $20 (regular price $40).
The surf club is located at 1500 S. Gene Autry Trail, with discount days running from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance, and discounted admission does not include access to the surf pool.
Additional days include July 16 and August 13.
Swim Center Community Meeting
Community members are invited to attend a public meeting Thursday, June 26 at 5:00 p.m. at the Palm Springs Leisure Center, 401 S. Pavilion Way. The meeting will review design plans for upcoming facility upgrades to the Palm Springs Swim Center's locker rooms and buildings.
Pre-registration is requested, and the meeting will be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person.
Masters Swimming Program Expands
The Palm Springs Swim Club, a U.S. Masters Swimming program, continues to grow with over 30 active adult swimmers. The program offers multiple practice times throughout the week at the Palm Springs Swim Center, 405 S. Pavilion Way:
Monday–Thursday: 5:30 a.m. – 7:00 a.m.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Swim Lesson Scholarships Available
The city is offering scholarships and reimbursement support to help families access swim lessons and water safety education. First 5 Riverside County awarded a $2,226 reimbursable grant, helping approximately 42 children enroll in swim lessons. Additionally, All Desert Aquatics donated $5,000 to fund additional swim lesson scholarships for families in need.

UPDATE: The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department have confirmed that one person has died and another two were injured after a home explosion on Ocotillo Rd in Twentynine Palms. Security camera video from a nearby neighbor captured the dramatic blast around 8:28 p.m., followed by a fire that brought a massive emergency response from fire and law enforcement agencies across the Morongo Basin. The burning structure has been confirmed as a residence at 6427 Ocotillo Ave. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation and the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Arson/Bomb Detail team is conducting the investigation.
