Riverside County Joins Regional Effort to Combat Mosquito-Borne Illnesses
Riverside County is stepping up efforts to fight mosquito-borne illnesses by joining a new regional partnership. On Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to enter a mutual aid agreement with 11 other Southern California vector control agencies.
This collaboration allows environmental health teams to respond swiftly across jurisdictional boundaries, especially during public health emergencies such as mosquito outbreaks.
Health officials say the aim is to improve response times and strengthen the region’s ability to prevent the spread of diseases like West Nile virus, which has been detected in Riverside County in past seasons. Under the agreement, agencies can share equipment, personnel, and resources to quickly identify and eliminate mosquito threats before they escalate.
Vector control officials urge residents to help reduce mosquito breeding by eliminating standing water and reporting mosquito activity to local health departments.
The agreement marks a significant step toward coordinated public health action across Southern California, ensuring that resources are mobilized quickly to protect communities.
