After More Than Three Decades in Education, PSUSD Superintendent Dr. Tony Signoret Prepares for Retirement
After dedicating more than three decades to education, Palm Springs Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Tony Signoret is stepping down from his role, leaving behind a legacy rooted in service, compassion, and student success. Though he once considered careers in dentistry or professional soccer, Signoret followed a path led by his passion for helping kids and giving back to the community.
Beginning his journey as a bilingual teacher, Dr. Signoret climbed through the ranks, taking on roles such as principal and human resources director, before becoming the district’s first Latino superintendent. Throughout his tenure, he was known for his hands-on leadership style—visiting over 950 classrooms.
Signoret made it a priority to highlight the contributions of others, consistently emphasizing that lasting change comes through collective effort. “If we all turn the dial little by little, eventually you're going to get there,” he said.
As he enters retirement, his goals are refreshingly simple: more family time, golf outings with his 13-year-old, and swimming lessons for his 3 year old. Though his calendar may be lighter, Signoret says PSUSD will always remain a part of him.
Dr. Marcus Funchess will officially begin as the new superintendent on July 1.
