Modernism Week Awards Over $90,000 in Scholarships to Coachella Valley Students

Modernism Week Fuels Future of Design in Coachella Valley with Record Scholarships

Twenty promising college students from the Coachella Valley are charting a course toward careers in architecture and design, thanks to over $90,000 in scholarships awarded through Modernism Week's annual program. This significant financial boost, which includes a contribution of over $22,000 from partner organization OneFuture Coachella Valley, underscores Modernism Week's deep commitment to nurturing local talent and strengthening the region's professional landscape.

Since its inception in 2011, the Modernism Week scholarship program has grown steadily, now having distributed more than $400,000 in total. These funds are primarily generated through the success of Modernism Week's popular community events and generous donations, reflecting a broad base of support for the initiative. The program has also extended its philanthropic reach, with donations aiding various charities, including the LA Fire Relief Fund.

Modernism Week's CEO Lisa Vossler Smith, a proud Indio High School alum, expressed profound personal meaning in the program's impact. She highlighted the joy of seeing local students pursue excellent educations and then return to apply their skills right back in the Coachella Valley, enriching the community that supported them. This cyclical benefit of investing in local education is a cornerstone of the scholarship's philosophy.

By fostering the next generation of architects and designers, Modernism Week aims to ensure a continuous pipeline of skilled professionals who can contribute to the unique aesthetic and development of the Coachella Valley.

Looking ahead, Modernism Week continues its tradition of celebrating midcentury architecture and design with upcoming events scheduled for October 16th through the 19th, 2025, and the main festival from February 12th through the 22nd, 2026. These events not only entertain and educate but also serve as vital fundraisers, ensuring the continued growth and impact of programs like the annual scholarship initiative.
