Suspect in Palm Springs Fertility Clinic Bombing Dies in Federal Custody

A significant and unexpected development has emerged in the ongoing investigation into the May 17th bombing of a fertility clinic right here in Palm Springs. Daniel Park, the Washington state man facing terrorism charges for his alleged role in the horrific attack, has died while in federal custody in Los Angeles.

Sources familiar with the incident tell NBC Palm Springs that Park, 32, was found unresponsive at the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. While the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has yet to release an official cause of death, information gathered suggests Park tragically took his own life by climbing onto a surface and jumping from a high balcony, sustaining fatal injuries. This news was first reported by TMZ.com.

The Department of Justice released a statement confirming the incident, noting, "Responding employees initiated life-saving measures, emergency medical services were requested while life-saving measures continued. Mr. Park was transported by EMS to a local hospital and subsequently pronounced deceased by hospital personnel."

No other individuals within the facility were reported injured in connection with the incident.

Park had been in federal custody since his arrest earlier this month at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. He was charged with providing and attempting to provide material support to a terrorist, a charge directly linked to the bombing that left our Palm Springs community shaken.

The death of Daniel Park adds another layer of complexity to a case that has already drawn national attention. As our local community continues to heal from the impact of the bombing, authorities will now work to determine the full circumstances surrounding his death while in federal care. NBC Palm Springs will continue to follow this developing story and bring you the latest updates.
