Protesters Challenge 'Alligator Alcatraz' Detention Plan
Protesters gathered outside a migrant detention center under construction deep in the Florida Everglades.
The controversial facility has been nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz” by state leaders.
It’s scheduled to open as early as next month.
Supporters claim the remote location will prevent escapes.
They point to the surrounding marshland teeming with crocodiles, alligators, and other dangerous wildlife.
But not everyone is convinced this is a good idea.
Environmental activists say the project could cause serious harm to the Everglades ecosystem.
They warn that construction disrupts native species and fragile wetlands.
Critics also argue that the plan lacks transparency.
The proposed site hasn’t gone through necessary environmental reviews.
And the public hasn’t had the chance to weigh in.
For now, the future of the project remains in limbo as pressure mounts.
