Judge Delays Release of Maryland Man Wrongfully Deported to El Salvador
A federal judge in Tennessee has once again delayed the release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was previously deported to El Salvador under questionable circumstances.
Abrego Garcia’s legal team filed a motion requesting the delay, citing uncertainty about the federal government’s next steps. Defense attorneys say they’ve received conflicting signals from federal prosecutors over whether the government intends to deport Abrego Garcia again—this time to a country other than El Salvador—should he be freed from the Tennessee jail where he’s currently being held.
Prosecutors have accused Abrego Garcia of involvement in human smuggling, allegations he firmly denies. His defense argues that the deportation was wrongful and that his detention raises serious concerns about due process and immigration enforcement.
A hearing is scheduled for next month to determine whether Abrego Garcia will be released or face further legal action.
