Multiple Fires Burn Across Riverside County: Thousands Evacuated in Mead Valley, Progress in Temecula
Wildfires are burning in multiple parts of Riverside County tonight, threatening homes, forcing evacuations, and stretching firefighting resources across the region.
The Wolf Fire remains the largest, burning south of Banning since Sunday afternoon. The blaze has now consumed more than 2,400 acres and is only 40% contained. CAL FIRE confirms three firefighters have been injured while battling the blaze. Evacuation orders and warnings remain in effect, with residents scrambling to prepare as flames push into mountainous terrain near Cabazon. Highway 243 is still closed, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
To the west in Mead Valley, the Juniper Fire has exploded to 700 acres, fueled by strong winds. Flames are spreading southeast, prompting evacuation orders for over 5,000 residents. Citrus Hill High School has been set up as a family assistance center to support displaced families. The full scope of damage is still being assessed.
Meanwhile, progress is being made on the Mindy Fire, burning east of Temecula near Aguanga. The fire started Sunday and quickly grew from 20 to 100 acres. Thanks to aggressive overnight efforts by air tankers, bulldozers, and hand crews, it is now 70% contained. All evacuation orders have been lifted. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Fire officials urge residents to stay informed, follow evacuation instructions promptly, and avoid impacted areas to allow emergency crews to work safely.
