New Week, New Construction — Here’s Where to Expect Delays

We’re back with your weekly Know Before You Go update, where Kris Gunterson from the CV Sync Traffic Management Center walks us through the major roadwork happening this week across the Coachella Valley.

🛠️ Palm Desert: Storm Drain Replacement on Fred Waring

First up — Palm Desert, where crews are hard at work replacing storm drains along Fred Waring Drive. This project is particularly impactful because the work is crossing Fred Waring, limiting traffic to one lane in each direction.

📍 Location: Between Warner Trail and Whitewater Trail
🗓️ Timeline: Paving is expected to begin Tuesday or Wednesday, with full project completion scheduled for July 2.

🚗 Best Detour: Use Highway 111 — traffic is flowing smoothly there for now, since paving hasn’t started yet on that stretch.

🚧 La Quinta: Highway 111 Paving Project Underway

The massive Highway 111 paving project in La Quinta is officially underway. Crews are currently preparing the road by updating curbs, gutters, and ADA ramps before full-scale paving begins after July 14.

📍 Coverage Area: From Plaza La Quinta on the west all the way to Jefferson Street on the east
📅 Timeline: Now through mid-November, aiming for completion before Thanksgiving.

This is one of the most disruptive projects of the summer, so start planning around it now.

🚦 Traffic Mitigation: Signals on Miles Avenue and Fred Waring Drive are being adjusted to handle heavier detour traffic.

🏗️ Cathedral City: Eastbound Lane Closure for Shopping Center Construction

In Cathedral City, construction continues near East Palm Canyon Drive, where work is underway to support a new shopping center development.

🛣️ Current Conditions:

One lane open eastbound

  • Signal modifications in progress to accommodate the future center

While not highly disruptive yet, this project is starting to tighten traffic flow, especially during peak hours.

🚗 Best Alternate Routes:

  • Gerald Ford Drive

  • Ramon Road

Expect minor delays, especially if you’re heading eastbound during busy parts of the day.

That wraps up this week’s construction outlook. As always, a big thanks to Kris Gunterson for keeping us in the loop. Remember: slow down in work zones, keep your phone out of reach, and as always — Know Before You Go!
