World Social Media Day, Meteor Trivia, and More: June 30 Holiday Calendar Pop Quiz

It’s the last day of June, and that means it’s time for another Holiday Calendar Pop Quiz—brought to you by Inland Empire Health Plan. And today’s lineup of quirky and fun observances made for some memorable moments.

June 30 is officially World Social Media Day, a day created in 2010 to celebrate how social platforms have changed global communication. Even those reluctant to use it were encouraged to “dip their toe in,” at least for today.

It’s also National Outfit of the Day Day, encouraging people to show off their style—and maybe throw in a compliment or two. “Who are you wearing?” was the question of the hour, with a few humorous shoutouts to Walmart.

Another celebration: Please Take My Children to Work Day. Designed to give stay-at-home parents a break, the idea is simple—send the kids off with your partner for the day. Bonus points if they clock in.

And of course, World Asteroid Day (also known as International Meteor Day) honors the anniversary of the 1908 Tunguska event, when a meteor exploded over Siberia and leveled more than 800 square miles of forest.

Naturally, meteor-themed trivia followed. One question stumped most of the team: Where can you find Meteor Crater, the best preserved meteorite crater on Earth? The correct answer? Arizona—a site measuring nearly 4,000 feet in diameter and 560 feet deep.

Then came a music throwback: The 1975 rock ballad "Shooting Star" by Bad Company, which tells the cautionary tale of a young musician named Johnny. Some guessed Grand Funk Railroad, but the background music gave it away—Bad Company was the right call.

From cosmic craters to classic rock, today’s pop quiz was a blast—and a fun way to close out the month.
