Governor Newsom calls out federal wildfire response

California’s ongoing wildfire crisis is once again making national headlines.
Governor Gavin Newsom issued what he called a mock executive order.
The move was meant to spotlight what he sees as a lack of federal response.
Speaking from a Cal Fire station, Newsom pushed for more funding, aircraft, and personnel.
He noted that half of the new fire starts over the past 48 hours have been on federal land.
Newsom emphasized that this is not the time for political posturing.
He urged federal leaders to match California’s commitment with real action.
“This is serious business,” the governor said.
He added that California has stepped up its efforts more than ever before.
Now, he says, the federal government must do the same.
The state is already in what’s considered fire season.
But fire officials warn that the risk now lasts year-round.
