Partial Verdict Reached in Diddy Trial; Jury Deadlocked on Racketeering Charge

We begin tonight with breaking news from New York, where a federal jury has returned a partial verdict in the high-profile trial of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.

After weeks of testimony, the jury — comprised of eight men and four women — announced Tuesday afternoon that they have reached a unanimous decision on four of the five charges facing Combs. However, they remain split on the most serious charge: racketeering conspiracy.

Jurors informed the court they were unable to reach a consensus on Count 1, citing “unpersuadable views” among members of the panel. That count centers on whether Combs ran a criminal enterprise that committed underlying offenses such as kidnapping and arson.

The four charges the jury has reached a decision on include sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution. The court has withheld the verdicts on those charges until the jury resumes deliberations on the unresolved racketeering charge Wednesday morning.

Inside the courtroom, Combs’ legal team was seen hugging and forming a protective circle around their client as the jury’s note was read. Combs reportedly held his head in his hands and gave a thumbs-up to family members.

Over the course of the seven-week trial, federal prosecutors painted a picture of Combs as a manipulative figure who “used power, violence, and fear to get what he wanted.” The prosecution called 34 witnesses, including Combs' former girlfriend Cassie Ventura and another woman identified only as “Jane.”

Combs did not testify in his own defense, and his legal team called no witnesses. Instead, they argued the allegations were “badly exaggerated” and emphasized that certain behaviors, while perhaps disturbing, do not constitute federal crimes.

The judge has instructed the jury to continue deliberations Wednesday in hopes of reaching a complete verdict.
