Rancho Mirage Launches Highway 111 Repairs to Improve Safety and Driving Experience
If you’ve driven along Highway 111 through Rancho Mirage lately, you've likely noticed road crews at work. That’s because the city has launched a major road improvement project designed to make the roadway safer, smoother, and more durable for drivers.
NBC Palm Springs' Kai Beach was on-site to learn more from city officials. “People traveling through the city and those who live here in Rancho Mirage will experience a smoother drive and a much cleaner look to the road,” said Charlie, a project manager with the City of Rancho Mirage.
Crews recently completed a crack-fill operation throughout the length of Highway 111. However, in areas where the asphalt had severely deteriorated, full-depth asphalt repairs were necessary. These deeper fixes ensure the structural integrity of the road before the next phase begins.
“In September, we’ll return to apply a slurry seal over the entire road,” Charlie explained. “That process increases the durability and stability of the surface, which adds to the overall safety and comfort of the driving experience.”
The current work is expected to wrap up by the end of this week. While there will be minor traffic impacts during the slurry seal phase in mid-September, city officials say it will be completed quickly and with minimal disruption.
“This project is really going to help,” Charlie added. “It’s going to improve your driving experience and enhance the beauty of our city.”
