Riverside County approves $96 million sheriff deal

Riverside County supervisors have approved a major new labor deal.
The $96 million, three-year contract covers more than 400 high-ranking sheriff’s personnel and peace officers.
It includes a 19% pay increase spread across the contract’s duration.
The first 9% raise takes effect immediately.
In addition to salary increases, the deal adds new benefits.
Those include special vacation hours, improved sick leave accrual, and insurance adjustments.
County leaders say these changes are aimed at retaining top law enforcement talent.
They also hope the package keeps Riverside County competitive with surrounding areas.
The agreement was negotiated with the union representing higher-level sheriff’s staff.
Officials described the process as collaborative and productive.
They say investments in public safety personnel benefit the entire community.
The new contract takes effect right away.
