An NBC Palm Springs Weather Heads-Up on Thursday, July 3, 2025!
The Coachella Valley and much of Southern California will be under clear skies through Monday, but breathing for some in our area may be an issue for the holiday weekend.
Currently, the Valley is under the 'Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups' category. But -- with anticipated Independence Day fireworks on Friday -- those celebratory explosions could significantly degrade our air quality due to the release of various pollutants like particulate matter, volatile organic compounds, and metal salts.
These pollutants -- including fine particulate matter -- can cause respiratory problems and worsen existing conditions like asthma.
That is why an Air Quality Alert has been posted from Friday evening through Saturday for the far West end of the Coachella Valley including Desert Hot Springs into the San Gorgonio Pass and Inland Empire.
