Pet of the Week: Icee Needs a Loving Second Chapter 🐾❄️

This week’s Pet of the Week is the kind of story that tugs at your heartstrings. Meet Icee, a sweet 6-year-old pup with a gentle soul and a whole lot of love to give. Brought in by Dan Rossi, Executive Director of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, Icee is looking for a quiet, stable home where she can finally exhale.

Icee spent her entire life in one loving home, but when her owner became too ill to care for her, she was surrendered to the shelter — the only option left. The transition has been hard on her, and while the shelter team is doing everything they can to ease her stress, it’s clear: Icee needs a home, not just a kennel.

🏥 Coming Soon: New Desert Hot Springs Animal Community Center

Dan also announced the upcoming opening of the Desert Community Animal Center in Desert Hot Springs — the first low-cost animal care center in the city. The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, July 9, with early services including low-cost vaccines and wellness exams. More services like spay and neuter events will roll out later this year.

“The demand for affordable pet care is incredibly high,” said Rossi. “We’re starting slowly so we can do it right, but the need in Desert Hot Springs is real — and we’re proud to be stepping up.”

🎆 4th of July Pet Safety Reminder

With Independence Day just around the corner, Rossi also shared crucial reminders for keeping pets safe during fireworks:

• Leave pets at home, not at events or picnics.

• Keep blinds closed and soft music playing to reduce anxiety.

• Confine pets to a safe room to help them feel secure.

• Make sure they wear ID tags—even if you missed microchipping this year, a name and number can still make a difference.

Many animals go missing during the 4th of July weekend, and shelters often see a spike in lost pets. A little preparation can go a long way in keeping your furry friend safe.
