Protests Planned Across Coachella Valley in Response to Trump Parade
This Saturday, thousands are expected to take to the streets of the Coachella Valley as part of a nationwide protest movement dubbed “No Kings Day.” Events are scheduled in Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, and Palm Springs, aligning with over 2,000 demonstrations across the United States.
Organizers say the protests are in direct response to President Donald Trump’s planned parade on June 14 — a date that marks his birthday, Flag Day, and the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Army. Protesters argue that the celebration is a self-serving show of power, especially controversial amid ongoing concerns about veterans' healthcare and government spending.
“He shouldn't be throwing himself a parade while at the same time cutting care for veterans,” said Emily Vogt, one of the organizers with "Courageous Resistance".
On social media, interest in the Coachella Valley events has surged. “Last I heard, we have 1,200 people signed up to go,” said one local organizer. Others responded with mixed emotions, ranging from support and enthusiasm to frustration and disapproval.
“Yes, I’ll be there.”
“I probably will go.”
“I won’t even be close to it.”
“They need to grow up and just deal with it.”
While criticism of the protests circulates online, organizers stress the importance of peaceful assembly and readiness.
“We haven’t had much issue with anyone doing anything negative, but it’s good for us to be ready in case something does happen. Preparation is key.”
Supporters of the protest view it as a necessary act of resistance against perceived authoritarianism and political grandstanding, while critics argue it promotes division and unrest.
There will be a rally at Rancho Mirage City Hall on Saturday from 9-10am 69825 Highway 111 and another one In Cathedral City from 9-10am at 68700 East Palm Canyon Dr.
Saturday night....the Palm Springs rally will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Courageous Resistance, Indivisible of
the Desert, and 50501 of the Desert will be hosting this particular rally in downtown Palm Springs (134 N. Museum Way)
This action is one of over 1800 taking place across the country under the banner of NO KINGS, a coordinated
day of nonviolent protest. For more information on the other local rallies, visit www.nokings.org.
