Small Steps, Big Gains: Easy Ways to Add Exercise to Your Daily Routine
Staying active is essential for good health, but busy schedules often make it feel impossible to squeeze in a workout. In today’s Health Minute, Mandy Gaither highlights simple ways to fit movement into your day—no gym required.
According to the CDC, adults should aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity each week, along with two days of muscle-strengthening exercises. But the good news? It doesn’t have to happen all at once.
CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta says even a five-minute walk is a great start. The key is consistency—just start moving. Whether it’s pacing during phone calls or parking farther from the entrance, small adjustments can add up.
“Try the stairs instead of the elevator,” Gupta suggests. “Just make sure you commit to at least five minutes every day.”
Over time, these “snack-size” workouts can grow into longer, more effective routines. Research shows that just 11 minutes a day of moderate to vigorous activity may significantly lower your risk of heart disease, cancer, and even early death.
The bottom line: small steps can lead to big results—just start somewhere.
